Brushless DC Motors
(25)
Composite Motors, Inc. manufactures BLDC motors and drivers in a wide range of sizes. Typical operating voltages range from 10VDC to 48VDC with power ranging from 100 watts to 12 HP and speeds up to 100k rpm for smaller motors. BLDC motors are a modern replacement for “brush and commutator” type motors. The brush types have service life issues because of brush and commutator wear. They also cannot readily be used in certain environments because of dust and sparks from the brushes. BLDC motors do not have these limitations. They have permanent magnet rotors and electronic commutation of stator currents. BLDC motors can also be operated at higher speeds. CMI motors can also generally operate at higher temperatures as well,

Switched Reluctance Motors
(2)
Composite Motors, Inc. manufactures Switched Reluctance motors (SRM’s) and drivers in a wide range of sizes. Typical operating voltages range from 10VDC to 48VDC and above with power ranging from 100 watts to 12 HP and speeds up to 100k rpm for smaller motors. Switched Reluctance Motors are a modern replacement for “brush and commutator” type motors and in some cases BLDC motors. The brush types have service life issues because of brush and commutator wear. They also cannot readily be used in certain environments because of dust and sparks from the brushes. SR Motors do not have these limitations and can also be operated at higher speeds. CMI motors can also generally operate at higher temperatures as well,

Gear Motors
When lower speeds and higher torques are needed, CMI integral gearheads are the way to go. Composite Motors, Inc. manufactures gears and reducers in our own in house gear shop. This assures the right match in the smallest package as well as good control over quality and delivery. Gears and reduction units are offered in several types:
Single and multiple stage parallel shaft spur gear
Single and multiple stage planetary
Wide range of ratios available
Integral to motor housing
NEMA “C” face mounting
Available with any CMI motor, DC, Brushless DC, Switched Reluctance
Stand alone units
Single input dual output traction units
Dual input dual
...
Custom Motors
Any of our motors are available with custom modifications to suit your special needs. Designing and building specials for custom applications is normal business at CMI.
Special shaft configurations.
Special mounting configurations.
Custom front end housings and heavy duty bearings for high overhung loads.
Housings and hermetically sealed drivers to accommodate harsh environments.
“Custom” is not limited to modifications to existing motors. CMI can design and manufacture custom motors, including special laminations, rotors and magnets to suit your needs. See also,

Traction Motors
Composite Motors, Inc. produces traction drive units incorporating CMI BLDC and SR motors and drivers and CMI gearing into Traction Motor Counter Shaft drive units. These units are offered in several configurations:
Single motor single output
Single motor dual output
Dual motor dual output for differential action
Available in sizes comparable to NEMA 17 through NEMA 56
Applications include:
Personal transport, carts, wheelchairs, bicycles
ATV’s, lawn and garden implements
All electric, hybrid electric vehicles
Automation devices, actuators, lifts
Coreless Motors
(7)
Miniature coreless DC motors are formed by a woven basket of copper wire that rotates around a rare-earth magnet. These small, durable, high performance motors are noted for high acceleration (low rotor inertia), high efficiency, low inductance, and a linear relationship between voltage, speed, and load current. Coreless motors have extremely low torque loss which results in minimal no-load current. These "ironless" motors have limitless applications. Examples include face mask defoggers, miniature fans, hobby drives, and micro-actuators.
